Visit to Vijayapura Rural Works in North Karnataka

The staff of St Joseph's Indian Institutions, Bangalore visited the Bijapur Rural Works from 12 to 16 October 2016. There were 24 staff members who had visited Bijapur which is as follows. •   4 staff members from the Primary School
•   2 staff members from the Middle School
•  10 staff members from the High School
•   6 staff members from the PU College
•   2 staff members from the Community College, with the management team.

The Jesuits in Bijapur are into both formal and non-formal education .The schools and college’s run by the Jesuits are : - •   Loyola High school , Bijapur
•   Loyola PU College , Bijapur
•   Loyola ITI College , Bijapur
•   Loyola High School, Sindagi

The Jesuits also work with the people in slum. Mahila Sangha, Makkala Sangha and help them to fight for their rights. They run hospital and orphanage for the HIV infected. They also run hostels for Devadasi children, especially for girls from the slum and other villages. These children are provided with free education and medication, food, clothing and shelter. The team from SJII visited all these places and also had interactive sessions with the Mahila Sangha, Makkala Sangha and the staff of Loyola PU College.

The main concern of the trip was to create a social concern towards the poor and needy and help our students to inculcate in them the values of humanity and a concern for the poor. Thus, helping them to uphold the Ignatius Principles and become better men and women for others.
